  • IT IS?!?!? ha ha.. I live here and I had to look that up... What 6 regions do you know of? I could find the following: US Census Bureau uses 4 regions: Northeast, midwest, south, and west We have 6 time zones: Hawaii-Aleutian, Alaska, Pacific, Mountain, Central, and eastern The Bureau of Reclamation uses 5 regions within the Western US We have 7 "belt" regions: Bible belt, corn belt, cotton belt, grain belt, rust belt, snow belt, and sun belt Perhaps you are talking about the following: New England, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest, Southwest, and West.... according to Wikipedia those are "Cultural" Regions... they explain about each one here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_the_United_States As far as I know we don't use these "regions" for anything other than general references to a very general area of the U.S. Because we have so much land area in the U.S. there is a huge difference between climates from one area to another... sometimes its just easier to say that "it rains a lot in the pacific northwest", rather than saying, "it rains a lot in Washington, Oregon and Idaho" I think we just use the regions to generalize, or to refer to a large area of the U.S. instead of somewhere specific.
