That's a bit different than the stories I read. It stated that most of the deforestation was due to Plan Columbia, a government plan started or encouraged by the USA to have Columbia do aerial spraying of herbicide and that is what is causing the deforestation. So one of the ways they are trying to stop the growing of cocaine is to spray from planes, but instead they kill off vast tracts of forest right alongside of the cocaine.
