What are the differences between girl/boyfriends, lovers, partners and significant others?

girl/boyfriends you cheat on, lovers you cheat with. partners you lie with, significant others you lie too. life is great.

girl/boyfriends and partners I put in the same category, they have the same attributes as a married couple. Lovers I say on the other hand don't have that commitment or want it for some reason or another but do enjoy the sexual side and also the lovers company.

If the emotional commitment is identical, I see no difference..sometimes one can have several "girl/boyfriends" at the same time..but if you are true to one person in every way, then I think these terms are interchangeable. Jim is my boyfriend (although he is 72 and I'm 70-1/2), my lover, partner and S/O and whatever designation I use, the meaning beneath it is the same! :) Happy Thursday! :)
