  • The neighbor kids were not responsible for the death of your cat. I can tell you from personal experience that an Airsoft gun is far from lethal. I was shot directly in the eye by one and received no permanent damage. Furthermore, even the largest caliber of airgun pellet is too small to be fired from an airsoft gun.
  • Byron is slightly wrong, as is JRW. Airsoft guns are 6mm and can have muzzle velocities as high as 500 fps, though that top end is usually from the higher-end, more expensive rifles. The typical airsoft gun from Walmart pushes about 350 fps, which is the same as a Red Ryder BB gun. Air rifles come in .177, .20, .22, and .25 calibers and can thump out pellets as fast as 1000 fps for the high-end models. .20 and .25 are pretty rare these days, though they are used in specialized air guns. 6mm is equivalent to .23 inches. You can put a .177 or a .22 air gun pellet into the barrel of an airsoft gun that has a 6mm bore. It is very unlikely that kids playing with an airsoft gun killed your cat by loading an airgun pellet into the bore, but it is possible at very, very close range.
