  • they used signing to the people that is deaf to help them read more
  • read a book every day.
  • because we leanred speeck before learning to read, we translate the symbols on a page into verbal sounds, then into the actual object or concept. "Fire truck" makes us think the verbal word "fire truck" then we translate that into the idea of a fire truck. (This is mostly subconscious, so we often don't realize it.) The deaf, because they learn to think visually and are minus a sense, skip that middle part (Unless they leanred sign language before reading, in which case, the symbols are translated into hand motions, then concepts.) and relate the written words directly to their abstract/physical counterparts.
  • they learned the graphemes not the phonemes. as they can't hear, the GPS rules doesn't apply so the stargedy they follow is learning the word as an image. They can also learned by syllables and then by analogy apply the word, but they can't learn it by the alphabet because they dont have a phonetic representation of each alphabet letter. samantha
