bad wires would be your most likely problem. Somewhere along the line, the copper wiring in the walls has split, and electricity is forced to jump accross open air every now and then to meet. This would cause a drop in voltage, and thus, the lights flicker

It could be several things. The most likely explanation is probably that there are fluctuations in your power supply that result in lights dimming and brightening for no apparent reason. Reasons for power fluctuations can be both external and internal to the house. Obviously if the power company provides power that fluctuates a lot, you are going to have some fluctuations in your power. (It may be worth investing in some surge protectors and such to protect your electronics.) You can also get power fluctuations when appliances (refrigerator, a/c, etc.) turn on or there is some other high current device that is being used in the home.

This sounds like a wiring problem. Turn the power off, and make sure the wires are all tightly seated to their junctions. If the problems persist, trace the circuit the lights are on back to the electric panel in your home. I had this problem in an apartment one time, it turned out that the problem was with the electrical panel of the building, the electric company had to come and tighten the junctions from the main power line from the street. They guessed that it was vibrations from a nearby bridge that caused the junctions to slowly loosen. re: comments Yes -- if your house was recently rewired, a mistake could easily have been made.

Im having this similar issue in my home, the lights "blink" and flicker often, seems every night. I had the power company come out and check the outside connections, I can see they changed them but I still have the problem..?? Some one told me it was a bad neutral? They are flickering as I type this which is annoying.. Would an electrician know where to start with a problem like this? Rod / NJ

Although it is rare, you may find that you have a bad ground. Check the ground rod outside the building. The 220vac line becomes unbalanced, and the voltage available at the outlets swings somewhat with the changing load conditions. Ask an electrician to check that for you.

there is a short in the switch. That could lead to a fire. Get it looked at

As a paranormal investigator I would say that you have a short in your electrical system. Most places that I get called to do NOT have an actual haunting. 99 times out of 100 there is a natural explanation. IF after having an electrician take a look at your wiring and he says everything is fine I would suggest getting a second opinion. You do not want to fool around with electrical issues in your home. IF the second electrician says the wiring is fine then you may want to consider calling a paranormal investigation team for assistance. IF it gets to that point DO YOUR HOMEWORK on the team you select. They should NOT charge you any money for coming, should NOT want to use Ouija boards, and they SHOULD be able to provide you with references. If they seem honest and knowledgeable about the paranormal then I would say let them investigate. Always stick with your gut feeling when it comes to selecting a team. If you need assistance in finding a good team in your area feel free to contact me. I would be more than willing to help. What about calling a professional Electrician! He can check every thing and problem will be sorted out!

Problem in the breaker box. I would turn off the breaker to that room and call an electrician.
