Not really. When you are a foreigner in a different country you can get quite used to it. After a while you don`t even know people are doing it anymore.

Oh yea I think everyones dealt with this sometime in their lives. As a kid once you KO the bully the rest will usually leave you alone, as an adult once you've stuck it to them in divorce court after living with an abusive spouse then you'll feel you've proudly earned what ever name they want to call you! (followed by a restraining order)

Yep, I find it frustrating because it usually means that the person doing it has nothing else to say.

Nope. in all honesty, I have a weird name, so i am used to people making up things to call me so they can get my attention. I have quite the list: Chaunda Bernice Shaquanda ('Quanda for short) Bosheika Shalon Alazy Johnson Red Bob ....take your pick. It is just a part of life for me. I get heebs when I hear someone say my name correctly :)

I like being called by my first name. I have an unusual last name that everyone messes up. I have learned to laugh at that. I don't like to be called "hon" or "sweety" by some waitress that's young enough to be my child. I hated my hair dresser calling me "Miss Thang". I was afraid to tell my hair dresser to stop because she might have given me a bad cut.

Most people do, Jen... Most of THEM just keep on plugging away. And if it's here, you CAN'T take it personally... No one really knows you and your situation(s) unless you tell them. So their name-calling should mean NOTHING.

yes, that's why i introduce myself as "hey you", that way people never forget my name and resort to calling me 'close' names. (i get called Randy a lot.... and not by my wife ;) )

I like my name, so when someone calls me it, I'm happy. Oh you meant BAD or DISCRIMINATING names... I love non-specific questions...
