Because they don't have any conception as to what common sense is. If it's a great idea then you know the governments are against it.

What a good question. I wish they would, not only would it help us, but it would help the earth.

They don't understand the measure of a gallon, Only votes. Maybe that's what we need to do, instead of $'s we could use neg vote figures! Then they'd get it!!!!!

I agree with Kevisaurus .. but on another note .. even if the government thought it was a good idea and wanted to help, they're about 10 years behind the times on stuff like this, so it will still be a while yet before anything would happen.

Yeah, what the hell. I don't pay enough taxes yet. Let's start giving tax money to the auto makers who are already posting profits in the billions. While we're at it, why don't we just start a government program to give everybody on welfare a free alt. fuel car.

The government could give the car manufacturers trillions of dollars but if the consumer doesn't like the car and doesn't buy it then the only winner will be the manufacturer who got all of that money.

Technically, I don't believe it is the government's responsibility. If people would stop driving gas guzzling cars, things could change. There are companies that already sell alternative fueled vehicles. They won't get any cheaper if people don't buy them. There has to be a demand first.
-
The vehicles exist, the fuel is the problem.

Perhaps a tax incentive for bicycles would help. Also creating places where bikes could be safely ridden.

The US government has already offered car manufacturers $20 billion in cheap loans to replace care factories over 20 years old (i.e. nothing for these nasty Japanese intruders) with new ones to produce more economical cars.
