you can get shot at the back of your head just to take the money you have from driving people around all day.. you can have a knife at your throat and be told to drive you where ever they want, you can pick up people on SOMETHING or ANYTHING, and can put you in a very scary situation.. you work late nights.. picking up constant strangers.. either good or bad, so isn't it common sense?

When you drive a taxi you literally have no idea who the person that gets into your cab is. For all you know, you could have a mass murderer in the back, who also happens to be a fantastic wrestler. You could have a mentally unstable person in your taxi, or somebody who wants to steal your money and is armed with a gun or knife. So, it's a dangerous occupation because every time you allow a stranger to ride in your cab, you put yourself at a greater risk of being attacked than if you were working in a more secure environment, or somewhere with lots other people you knew weren't generally dangerous.

Oregon and AVS426's answers a good. I would just point out one other thing. All of these potentially dangerous people get into the back seat. That is, they are sitting behind the driver. So, the driver really does not have much of a chance of defending himself. ************* "Carmella: Oregon hasn't submitted an answer, as of yet anyway :)" Sorry about that Carmella, I didn't mean to have the wrong person credit for your answer.

Well, I would never pick up a hitch-hiker because you know nothing about the person. You might be giving a ride to a person who just committed the 10th serial killing of their lives. Being a taxi driver puts you in harms way with every fare you stop for. You can be robbed, beaten or even murdered. Every occupation carries risks, but this one is far to risky for me to ever consider, plus I am a crummy driver... I might get killed in an auto collision.
