shoot, me personally, i wouldn't stick my hands anywhere NEAR someone's feet. but the doctors, it's because they don't want to risk hitting your bone since that's pretty much all a foot is. It's all skin and bone practically.

It's mainly because those veins are deceptive. It looks like it should be easy to hit them, but in reality, they're very flimsy and collapse easily. When I was training, I remember multiple times when I thought I was home free but instead wound up giving someone a huge bruise on their foot. That being said, a friend of mine once managed to start an IV in those veins. He was very very good. :-)

its not necessarily about the blood. Its more about getting an infection in the foot which if not treated or ignored can cause serious complications.
