Why do ppl think those who have gastric bypass [such as carnie wilson] are such heroes? all they did was have an operation!

Gastric bypass is not simply and operation - it's an alteration of one's life. A person has to completely change everything they've ever known about eating and the resulting weight loss impacts the rest of a person's life because they feel better physically and have greater confidence. I think it is that part of the transformation, the emotional part, that makes them 'heroes', not the surgery or the weightloss itself. I guess the weightloss can be inspirational, too, because people can see how much their lives will really change just by changing their appearance. Personally, I am more inspired by the people on the Biggest Loser.
