I mean this in a nice way; But I need help understanding why people put their personal pictures as avatars; I personally would feel funny if I ran into someone I know personally on AB; I guess its just me?

If you can even see my tiny face I doubt you would ever remember even seeing me before. Hop on over here to Illinois and we will try it. As long as I don't post too much personal info I feel ok to show ppl what I look like. I don't think they could find me just by that one really bad pic;)

I like to see who I'm talking too so I figured others were like me and so I did it. I never worry about running into anyone . I don't think with a quick glance that anyone would know who I was.

yes i always think its a bit egotistical especially when its probably not even a real pic of them? and yes id hate for anyone to recognise me hehe

I've put my photo, but my name originally was my own name, but then I was scared one of my friends would Google my name and find me asking questions, probably embarressing sexual/strange ones too! (questions I mean, not my friends)

Some people actually want to advertise themselves ... some people are not at all worried about stalkers or other internet dangers ... others prefer some sort of anonymity ... Although I am not trying for global fame, I have absolutely no objection to being recognized, and present myself the way I am, with just a few minor secrets kept back, but all sorts of personal info clearly posted, even my e-mail address in my profile (in case some one wants to converse without posting openly for everyone else to read).

Edited because I had misread your question :( Yeah I'm also in two minds about this. Not so much that I could come across someone I knew (well, if they have put their personal pic up they must be okay about being recognized) Whether I could put up a personal pic or not and if not why not?? :)

I have been using an old photograph of my grandmother for mine. AS for the pictures of myself? Well, if I do decide to put one in of myself. You probably wouldn't be able to see it very well.

It's not just you. I never put my pic on any site or forum. Too many crazies in the world.
