Under what conditions or circumstances can a US citizen defect to another country and what country could they defect too?

I think you would have a hard time trying to gain asylum in another country for either political strife or hardship leaving the US. Even our poor here are better off than many in other countries, and nobody is being hacked to death with machettes in the US for trying to vote, etc.

As a American citizen you can renounce your citizenship and move to another country, if that other country is willing to accept you.

I would suggest Canada, it worked for the draft dogers and before them my ancestors.
