  • No, you won't get into trouble but if any medical complications come up with the baby and it could've been avoided by you simply taking the baby to the doctor, you may be looked at as a neglectful parent and charges may be filed. I wouldn't risk not taking the baby to the doctor because it is important, at least in the baby's first year that the baby develops without complications and is doing well in his/her brand new world.
  • I agree with Cheery Cheery. But would like to add a question. Is the reason the parent is not taking their baby for well checks b/c of lack of insurance? If so there are agencies that can help. You can contact your state medicaid office and find out what type of low cost insurance they offer for children.
  • I agree with Cheery and future .. however, I would like to add that if the child does not recieve his/her immunizations (per whatever the law is where you are) they can find the parent neglectful regardless of health problems that may or may not occur.
  • So can you get in trouble for NOT taking a baby that is not sick to the doctor? Sure, babies should be checked and measured for developmental purposes on a regular basis, but no governmental agency should EVER get you in trouble for missing one or some. If your child is developing well (growing proportionally in height and weight, has no speaking and hearing issues that are noticeable, heals quickly from cuts and bruises and is attentive and responsive), then you can skip a check up. If you can't afford it, then get online and find out exactly what you need to check for. Try to find a nurse friend or neighbor who will take a few minutes to check your child for you. You can repay her in a non-financial way.
  • So Goofoffgoose are you willing to tell us why the parent doesn't want to take the child for checkups?
  • What is a well check?
  • honey, i have been a penniless, single mom-and i cant imagine not following up on everything to do with my daughters health. if you cant figure a way to get there, then involve social services, but do not neglect your baby in any casual way.
  • Now may I add, he's fine. He's if developing fine, he's eating fine. He's really happy. It not like I haven't done this twice before. I do have 2 very healthy boys that are 9 and 11. But I am getting ready to call to make his 1yr check up and I was nervous because I never meant for him to not make it to a doctor for 6 months, time just kept slipping by. I was just worried I could get in trouble. Now his missing vaccines is a whole other topic. I have not come to a conclusion on the vaccine yet. There is new finding, brand new, like just last month new, and it has nothing to do with mercury. Look it up, its kind of scary.
  • If you just miss one, I think that's okay. If you miss any more, you run the risk of being found an unfit mother by a judge on the basis of neglecting the well-being of the child.
  • Been to the Dr now. Everything was fine. She wasn't at all mad at me. And we are working with my fear of the vaccines. She totally understood my fear. I told her I wanted him to have them, I just wanted them broke up in to 2's instead of 4's and it is not at all necessary for him to have the Chicken Pox shot. A smaller percentage of children get encephalitis from not getting the vaccine than the kids that end up with complications, be it extremely high fevers, paralyzation, or even the suspicion of Autism, and it is not required by ANY state! Not to mention that my second son had that shot, and got CP anyway! BTW, it is not illegal to not get your kids vaccinated. Only private day cares can reject you. Even if your kids do get sick at some point and it could have been prevented. Truth is its your choice and do you get in trouble if you choose to get them vaccinated and they do get sick from the vaccine, because we know the doctors don't.
