lol :) Some people here are indeed bothered by the points. Those people keep on questioning my moderation points, for example. Those same people say that the points don't matter at all. If the points don't matter, then points should not bother them, whether those points are earned from questions, answers or moderation. Good question.

You'd think so but I guess people are here for different reasons. It's fun to get points and at the beginning it does bring it's little perks like being about to reward questions and answers that you liked. But really, the points aren't for the people. They are for the answers and for the questions, to help them rise to the top and show which are 'best' for the ones needing help.

Points are not a big deal to me. the reason I am where I am is because I use to do nothing but Ab due partly to health. I can branch out now and you can tell I've slowed down. So what I still have all my friends and more to come. Questions to answer, comments to make and all of AB to enjoy!!
-
I'm here because I like to laugh and have a good time. I do not concern myself with points.
-
Alot of people are concerned with points and levels because there is a competetive aspect to AB which makes it extra interesting to those that like achievements. healthy competetiveness is good and fun. some are happy just to make friends and ask and answer questions at their own pace. There are all different types of people from all different walks of life on here who enjoy AB for their own reasons. It's great we can all come together and respect each other for all our differences.

I guess not. What people don't realize is that the points on Answerbag don't matter. You can't spend them. They aren't worth anything in the real world. It's just a number that goes up if someone clicks a button. It really just doesn't matter. Though, I could see how it could be a really big deal to people who don't have a life outside in the real world- it's quite an honor to be the person who spends the most time on an internet site, doing absolutely nothing, sitting on their rears all day and night, thinking that they have the best answers, or the funniest quips. If that's all one has in their life, then the points on AB are a really big deal.

Whatever motivates people to participate on AB won't necessarily add to or detract from their individual contributions, I wouldn't have thought.
-
I think that for some people, or just some answers/questions for some people, the addition or subtraction of points equates to acceptance and rejection. A feeling that their thoughts or views aren't as important, or liked. Call it insecurity or whatever you want, but it exists.
-
If you don't make many friends, then I think getting points and levels becomes more important.
-
I dunno!!!
-
Why don't we tell people their points mean that it is their Answerbag age... I don't want to get old!
-
I could care less. I simply like reading and seeing how people think....and I do voice my opinion once in a while too:)
-
I just here to answer questions and make comments.

Your point is valid but one could argue it's the psychology of the game. Points and levels are motivators...small rewards to encourage members to actively participate in the asking and answering of questions. Like any game, some people take their rewards (or lack, thereof) quite seriously. Some to the point the it's blown out of proportion. Since each member is motivated to participate for different reasons, it's reasonable to assume answering/asking questions and making friends just isn't enough. They want to get PAID.

i have barely any points and that's fine with me. i just love being free to ask whatever i need to and there's always someone to share a good answer with me :)
