although it is illegal, unfortunately it is a federal law & Good Luck trying to get the feds to prosecute that! if it's your privacy your concerned about (the neighbor seeing your mail), you could get a post office box. if it's the nuisance of it that bugs you, you could try either the official notice Auntie Em suggests, or a less formal, nice note requesting non-postal workers to stay out of the box. Or how about this: tack a small, uncovered box next to your mailbox with a note on it saying something like "Please place all non-postal items here" then just leave the items in the box. They should realize that you're not interested or eventually the box will fill up until there is no more room for them.

Wrap tape around the handle that opens the mailbox. Then Cover the tape with Pine Sap, or some other sticky substance. Once your neighbor gets the hint go cut it off, or peel it off wearing disposable gloves. don't forget to take it off. It will upset your mailman if he gets sticky fingers.

contact the post master for your area the post office can fine who ever puts non postal items in your mailbox or press charges you may have to do a lot of complaining to get him to do this. it is a criminal offence but not too often enforced.

Ask them to stop. If they refuse, tell them that you will go postal.
