  • Most christians don't follow the ethical example of Jesus Christ. Why would an atheist?
  • Nah....Jesus wants people to surrender their souls to him. Surprisingly, I'm not really into that sort of behavior.
  • Thank you for this question. I hope that people stop seeing atheists as immoral nihilists. For the most parts, yes I do. The message of the Bible (other than the belief in Jesus stuff) is valuable. The ten commandments are based on human morals, and I think you should follow them also as atheist. Helping others gives you a better feeling and you feel that you can make an impact. However, I don't believe that the Bible was inspired by an allknowing being, therefore, it isn't perfect. Jesus preached "love your enemies". In some cases, this might be good, if somebody steals something little from you because he is starving, and you give him more money to eat and tell him not to do it again, this would be a good deed in my opinion. But in most of the cases, hate your enemies for what they do. And also the Bible preaches forms of sexism, genocide, homophobia, slavery (this is quoted from AntigoneRising), in these cases, I will gladly reject the advices the Bible gives me.
  • No, I follow my own ethics -- because of what feels right and because I want to be a decent person, not because of Jesus Christ. No offence to him. :P
  • Jesus christ is Old Fashioned so i dont want to follow his ethnical example, if we did we all be born in trampy staples and wear sandles all the time
  • I think the ethical example Jesus made was a good one, I don't think of the stories of christ to be any more than fables like the Wolf and the grapes or anything else. Good stories with examples of how humans can live their lives. Ancestral knowledge passed down from even before christ's time, since most of the bible was just pieces/stories from other previous civilizations anyways. I think things like the 10 commandments are kind of intrinsic knowledge, we know it is wrong to kill, we don't need religion to tell us this, all cultures and religions believe the core morals and mores at the center of their existence and exemplify similar human laws, though some attribute them to christ or allah or whomever, they are basic human wiring if you ask me.
  • Its a nice life style full of love and friendship. When a person stays within its circle, one can avoid trouble with the law and terrible people. Its like living in a safe haven bubble. One has preconceived notions of where the trouble happens, and then One just stays away from those places. Where ever alcohol is served for one. Where ever there is dancing. Where ever there is loud music. It is a bit like wearing blinders to life in general. Still One can grow up in a safe environment and grow old with grandchildren.
  • I don't see why Jesus in particular. I haven't memorized his "ethical examples" so it's possible that some have slipped my mind but I can't think of any that were original to him. And others - like turn the other cheek - just seem to maximize victim hood. Should the US have offered up the Sears Tower on Sept 12 to Jihadists? And some just seem arbitrary - supposedly he healed the sick and raised the dead, why just in the cases sited? Why not get rid of sickness, death and pain all together? Were those people in cases mentioned somehow more deserving than any and everyone else? No - I really don't see any reason for follow any ethical examples. +3 for a good, thought provoking question.
