  • March is the third month, I have no idea it was ever the first month...never heard that before.
  • They wanted to keep in line with the start and finish of the solar year instead of the harvest year.
  • It was the first month in the Julian calendar, the last month being December, dec 10. There were 10 months in the original Julian calendar. I've never known March to be the 4th month however.
  • It is the third month. It was moved from the first because Roman Emperors could move the months or change the number of days in the month as they pleased. They often did this to honor themselves. For example the Month July was named Julius Ceasar, August was thus likewise named this way. December comes from the latin word for 10. But it is the 12th month.
  • I don't think it can have been, given that September, October, November and December are named after the Latin for seven, eight, nine and ten, and only stopped being the months they were named after when two new months were added named after the Roman Emperors Julius and Augustus Caesar. March is the third month, not fourth.
