You can try running really fast but that will only take it about 2 feet off the ground....need a breeze.

Yes you can, but it's' got to be a special very light kite and rather smallish. They are special ones for indoors. You can get them up by pulling and yanking the string and get them up and when they start to fall you pull sharply and it's like you are creating the air pressure that helps keep them aloft. It's not easy to do and takes lots of practice, but it can be done.
