  • I took a plane home from London England a few years ago and I had an odd feeling it could very well be the last time I get into an airplane. The way things are looking, I'll never be able to fly again. It is becoming a thing for the elite only, as will driving sometime in the future.
  • Very good question!!! I love to travel, but have done less and less of it as time goes on. Don't even think about traveling to Europe for less than $1K. Funny to think back a few decades ago when a book was written titled Europe from $50 a day (although they've released an updated version). You may be able to eat for that price, but getting over there and finding decent lodgings may prove to be difficult.
  • One saves up to cover the costs.
  • yes indeed one saves up to travel and it helps to have family where you are going it cuts the food and hotel cost as far as gas well ya just gotta save
  • At 3 dollars a gallon, my wife and I were paying 500.00 a month just to get back and forth to work. (2 cars). I've been car pooling for about a month now so that has put a dent in our bill.....
  • The backpacking budget traveler still exists, and still manages to wander the globe for very little money. Even with fuel prices increasing, in real terms it is still less expensive now to buy an international air ticket than it was 20 years ago. Tony and Maureen Wheeler have, for many years, written about how to travel on the cheap. Now they have a staff of writers doing it for them. Their line of books is called Lonely Planet. Any of their books will provide insight on inexpensive travel.
  • Plenty of airlines still offer discounted plane tickets. There are a lot of cheap but clean and comfortable hotel rooms around the world. For example, we only paid 60 dollars for our hotel room in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam during our trip there last month. We stayed in that hotel for five days and four nights. That's an average of 15 dollars a night! I think that's very cheap. It wasn't a five-star hotel but it had an aircon, fridge, balcony and clean bathroom. What more can you ask for? I think it's really just a matter of looking at the right place at the right time.
