The west has a huge trade deficit with China -- if we really cared about human rights there, we'd put our money where our mouth is. My guess is every American household has many things that are made in China. The price is right, and so we keep our mouth shut. But before we point our finger so harshly at China, I suggest we look at ourselves... How easy is it for you to say something in the New York Times, or on national TV???? Only people with a lot of money, and nothing substantial to say, can speak loudly here in the west, otherwise, our voice is drowned out by the vast status quo, that believes what the big name media voices tell us, and scours the news for sports scores and hollywood gossip. Take a look for yourself: http://riverbendblog.blogspot.com/ How much of this have you read about in the Western Press? Do you know where to find other news sources about day to day life in Iraq under the US Occupation? One final point -- if we're so free here in America, why do we have more people in prison than anywhere else in the world (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs/r88.pdf)? In fact, by population, we put 5x as many in prison here in the USA as compared to China. So, to answer your question, I think if the western countries practiced what they preached, then they'd be right to point their finger at China.

Wikipedia's head honcho refused to let the Chinese censor Wikipedia. If Google and Yahoo also grew a backbone, this would help. Make things tough for them. Another thing we could do is have their goods inspected before it enters our ports. So much of their merchandise is "Chinese junk" I think they just disguise their garbage as merchandise and sell it to us so it goes in our landfills, not theirs.
