Question

Help answer this question below.

My PC is running slow, I did a virus scan with McAfee, it came up that I have an spyware that needs to be deleted. I tried to delete it, it says can't be deleted, I try to clean/quarantine it and file is not found. Help?

    This is one of those programs that checks your computer for missing links and dormant registry files.. its a nusience and can only be deleted if you buy their program... don't do it... it isn't the problem for your computer being slow, and it won't effect your data or programs.
    With any windows version of OS, you need to turn off your computer at least twice a week, with a total shut-down, power off. Windows has alot of "housekeeping" to do and needs to be shut down and restarted to do this.
    Also, you should "defrag" your computer, this will take alot of time, depending on how much stuff you have downloaded or loaded onto your computer and how much you have deleted since the last time you defraged if ever... This defragging, puts all the data and program information all in one spot on the computer, so that the controller isn't jumping around all over the place to get all the data for each program to load, which when all the information is in one spot, speeds up the computer.

    It needs elbow room to move all the files and data around, so you may want to clean up your hard drive first... get rid of stuff, and make CD's of data that you don't need on the computer. A full disk can sometimes slow it down too..

    McAfee & Nortons have their place but they just don't do the job well and tend to take of lots of space on PC doing it and something you pay for yr after yr.
    There are FREE one that will do much better. I agree on the defrag only do it 2-3 times in a row even if PC says its not needed. Also disc clean
    One of the few programs that runs in safemode for spyware is AVG anti-spyware.

    (can only run one virus program at a time on a PC but you may have as many spyware programs as you wish as long as you run only one at a time, and only one firewall)

    A GREAT FREE ONE IS ZONE ALARM FOUND AT www.snapfiles.com under the freeware section, personal firewalls.

    Note:
    It is wise to only run one virus program at a one time but run as many spyware as you like, only run them one at a time, other wise they will conflict with each other, it is good to have more than one as each will find some thing the other did not. Unistall any other program as they may conflict such as Norton,MacAfee etc.

    The only one this list that runs in safemode F8 is AVG anti-spyware, which does work great in safemode.
    Also wise thing to do is to run the virus & spyware program once without internet connection and then again with internet, as some times the virus will try to block program other wise when internet is running.

    It is most likely an activeX cotrol thats only running when your browser is. Start your internet browser and try again, otherwise Enable hidden files in your folder options and attemp to find the file manually. If all else fails. Back up all your personal data and reinstall windows and perform a full format during installation.

    Once in a while, it is beneficial to do a virus scan in 'Safe Mode'. As your computer is booting up, keep pressing 'F8' until you get a menu with an option of 'Safe Mode'. Choose this option. It will take a bit longer for your computer to load windows, and the desktop will be low quality (larger icons, less colours, etc.). While in Safe Mode, do a virus scan, spyware scan, all that stuff. This will take a lot longer than usual and you won't be able to use the internet or most games, but it helps get rid of those viruses and spyware that you cannot remove in reguar mode.
    Just restart your computer when you're done, and it will boot back up into regular mode.

    You need a good program thats known for doing this type of stuff. You can do it yourself but then your taking a chance of really screwing things up.
