Why isn't downhill mountain biking an Olympic sport, when cross-country mountain biking is?

I don't know, maybe because it would be considered not a huge amount of self power due to the main effect being gravity. I know DH is really hard and takes alot of skill and balls to do it well, but maybe they look for the more mainstream parts of the sport of mountain biking in general? Who knows!? Good question!

DH is hard to film. My guess is that sensationalizing the sport is the limiting factor. It is much more deserving of Olympic representation than trampoline or floor routine. It makes me sad that it is not an Olympic sport. And it is definitely not possible to win an elite DH race and be anything but in tip-top physical shape and have F1-like reflexes. I imagine there are factors involved that would make me disappointed in the IOC if they were unveiled here.

Downhill ski racing DH, SG, GS, SL, bobsled, luge, skeleton etc all gravity sports. Equestrian events don’t take amazing stamina or athleticism. DH needs to be an Olympic sport, however I believe that the current form of downhill racing is quite limited and represents a form of mountain biking that is on the edge of being it’s own worst enemy. If you keep on trying to look and race like a motocross bike you will eventually be treated as such and that is not good for DH racing and is catastrophic for mountain biking in general. DH needs to return to courses that are always different (technical/speed etc) and embrace the athleticism that the sport can have. I remember installing moto pegs on my bottom bracket and riding a DH course passing expert level racers with cranks, as long as that can happen DH will have a hard time getting into the Olympics. Pedal damit! This ain’t no pump track! I am only this critical because I love to sport so much and want it to succeeded!

Because people are scared of our really cool sport and how awesome we are, but other than that i really don't know i really hope they get around to adding it though but also it could be hard to set up cause some places in the world are not very good for downhill like the parries in canada

because they changed the style of the subaru after people complained that the planned out track was just for safety and the guy doesn't need a passenger.
