Jewish do believe in Jesus. They don't believe he was the son of god/our savior. Don't be so arrogent.

One of the very prophecies mentioned was that they (as a nation) would not recognize him as messiah.

They understand Scripture differently, not better or worse. They do not believe that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah foretold in their Scripture. Now you can ask the next question. Oops, someone has already asked it. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/278595

Only God can open one's understanding to scripture. Whether they be jew or gentile. (Luk 24:44) And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. (Luk 24:45) (Then opened he their understanding), that they might understand the scriptures, Read all, so it's not taken out of context.

You are looking at now, not at the time when Christ first rose. If you look at the Book of Acts, you will see that after Peter preached the first Christian sermon, (Acts2) 3000 people converted, and they were all Jews in Jerusalem for the Passover. After that, most of the early converts came out of Judaism. It was later that Paul actually targetted the Gentiles (with the blessing of the Christian leaders of Jerusalem). So the early Christian church was heavily weighted in favour of Jewish background. Then, it slowed down, as the Jewish people were scattered after the destruction of Jerusalem (AD 70) and congregations all over the Roman world became more mixed, and then weighted towards the Gentiles. But, it is not that the Jews have stopped accepting Jesus. It is still happening. If you look on the net, you will find many references to Messianic Jews, ie Jewish converts to Christianity, who practice their faith in a Jewish context.

they didnt expect jesus to be so humble and caring for the poor. they thought he would be some powerful ruler, so when jesus came they thought it just couldnt be him.
