Why isn't there a rule that if you give a negative rating you have to explain it with a comment?

Good idea in theory, but this place gets contentious enough without the fights that would start. In an ideal world, people would accept such explanations gracefully, but Answerbag is far from an ideal world. I also think that people are under the misconception that if they give a negative rating every once in a while, that makes them a troll. Not so. Just like getting a negative rating every once in a while doesn't mean you're being trolled. Sometimes people don't agree with an answer and don't feel like getting into a discussion about why. If it's not a pattern of behavior aimed at a specific user, I think that should be their right. It's a negative rating, not the Hindenburg disaster;)

its always about losing points. so what? are you here for the points or to help people with their questions? Get a life. shape up. step on that inflated ego. tell it to just deflate. so what if you lose points. trolls just love to irritate the hell out of you. they know your ego is inflated. they know you love the points. so dont sweat it. dont let them bother you. when you get irritated, they are having the most fun. especially when you post questions related to getting down rated. that just feeds their egos. their brothers will be visiting you soon. there are positrolls that like to add points and repair the damage.

Very true...if someone is gonna give a neg rating at least be man or woman enough to say why.
