Could my lively and healthy Maine Coon defend himself against squirrels or blue jays?

Maine Coons are so gorgeous! I would say that such a large breed could easily defend himself against squirrels and blue jays (unless of course, you have rabid packs of them around and attacking in groups). Squirrels are easily frightened and blue jays only eat small rodents. I used to have a Coon that lived outside and he never had problems.
