  • No i dont think so i would think once given it becomes your property.
  • it would be in good taste to give it back. legally, if the guy breaks it off, the woman can keep the ring, although the law varies from state to state. personally, i'd give it back and tell him to shove it up his butt.
  • I wouldn't! I'd keep it. He gave it to you. If he breaks it off, that's his fault. If you break it off, that's a different story.
  • I found myself in just this very situation once. He was no gentleman, but asked for his ring back when the engagement was called off. I took the ring to a jeweler, had the diamond removed for my trouble and kindly returned his ring. If he breaks the engagement, he is out a diamond. If she breaks the engagement, it would be socially appropriate to return the ring in tact.
  • If she breaks it off he has a right to ask if he breaks it off it is considered a gift. At least that is what the judge told my girlfriend when this happened to her.
  • Accepting the ring means that the woman is promising to become the wife of the husband. She is accepting the proposal. If the promise is never realized, the ring should go back to the one who gave it.
  • The ring should go back, no matter who ends the relationship.
  • Old rules - if the man breaks it off, woman keeps the ring; if the woman breaks it off, man gets the ring back. From the quaint old says when a broken engagement was something to feel guilty about. New rules - depending on where you live, whoever paid for it gets it. Why you would want to keep a ring from someone who didn't love you enough, I don't know, unless it is worth a bundle. But selling it will never recover its purchase price anyway.
  • hahahahaheeheehee,Nah!
  • Yes, the contract has been broken. Legally, she must give it back if he asks. I saw this case on the "Judge Judy."
