This is a silly question. How much does the person weigh to begin with? How many calories is a starvation diet? And is the person in a concentration camp doing heavy labor, an anorexic trying to fool her parents, or someone on a hunger strike? Now that I've been mean, here's something interesting. The fattest man in the world died of malnutrition. He weighed 1069 pounds but when a super-fat friend of his died from overeating he refused all food. He got down to about 700 pounds and died, not of starvation, but because every time you use the bathroom you lose some electrolytes and other minerals. This was in Guinness about 20 years ago.

It took Terri Schindler-Schiavo 13 days to die after her feeding tube was removed in a hospital last year. (This was a very bitter and controversial death in Florida, as family members were divided over the matter of a feeding tube that had kept her alive until that time). That 13 day figure is pretty normal: I know people that have worked in hospices, and they've told me that when a dying person decides not to eat anymore, it can still take a couple of weeks for them to die.

Typically a person lasts about 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food.

Here's a rule that usually stands well: 3 minutes without air 3 days without water 3 weeks without food When the body enters starvation mode it will first use the bodies adipose fat tissue for energy first then once the body reaches somewhere between 2-5% body fat it will then start to use muscle for energy. The myth that as soon as ur body enters stavation mode it begins to eat away at muscle is purely a marketing tool to make people join gyms and buy supplements so they can make money. I mean why would the body bother storing fat if it wont use it in times of need and prefer to use muscle that the body has spent months building. Think about it. Hope this helps.
