  • Additional info: I am going to get my GED and go to community college. I hate high school because none of the classes apply to my future. Does it matter if i go to college part time or full time to opt out of the basic classes?
  • No, Your school should have a computer department that only teaches what you wish when it comes to a certificate. There are full degrees that will require Math, English, etc, but you should be able to get the Networking Certificate if that is what your aiming for, check with the school first to make sure.
  • If you want an Associates Degree or to transfer to a four-year institution then yes, you will have to take classes in all the core areas. You might, however, be able to get certified in some capacity in just the telecommunications area. Let me point out, however, that getting either a bachelors or associates degree could only help you in the long run. You will be more competitive in the job market and be able to demand a higher salary. Consider getting certified, and then taking on or two classes at a time towards a degree...at whatever pace feels comfortable. College...and college classes...are COMPLETELY different from high school. You might even find them more enjoyable.
