    "There are many misconceptions and rumors about what does and does not cause the condition:

    * Diet. One flawed study purported that chocolate, french fries, potato chips and sugar, among others, affect acne.[1]A recent review of scientific literature cannot affirm either way.[2]The consensus among health professionals is that acne sufferers should experiment with their diets, and refrain from consuming such fare if they find such food affects the severity of their acne.[3]A recent study, based on a survey of 47,335 women, did find a positive epidemiological association between consumption of particularly skimmed milk and acne.[4]The researchers hypothesize that the association may be caused by hormones (such as bovine IGF-I) present in cow milk; but this has not been definitively shown. Seafood, on the other hand, may contain relatively high levels of iodine, but probably not enough to cause an acne outbreak. Still, people who are prone to acne may want to avoid excessive consumption of foods high in iodine. It has also been suggested that there is a link between a diet high in refined sugars and acne. According to this hypothesis, the startling absence of acne in non-westernized societies could be explained by the low glycemic index of these tribes' diets.[5]Further research is necessary to establish whether a reduced consumption of high-glycemic foods (such as soft drinks, sweets, white bread) can significantly alleviate acne, though consumption of high-glycemic foods should in any case be kept to a minimum, for general health reasons.[6]"

    I made a bet with a friend who was absolutely adamant about chocolate being a direct cause to acne, despite the fact that he had no logic for it, and his source of authenticity are his parents and his friends. I'm so happy about making that bet now >.>

    But what I never understood is this: Even if it does give pimples, how? What's so unique about chocolate that doesn't exist in other food sources that somehow amplifies the amount of clogged pores on your face? Other than perhaps a uniquely individual reaction, I see no answer for those questions.

    Doctor's are very cagey about the link between acne and diet, as the effects seem to be sodifferent with different people. Some people can eat whatever they want with no effect on their skin, other only have to look at a bar of chocolate and come out in pimples. What doctors do agree is that eating a healthy diet in general will help your body to fight acne.

    Everyone's body is slightly different, and the best thing to do, is to pay close attention to what you eat, and any reactions that seem to follow. Keep a written record if you have to. If you start to see connections between eating chocolate, and getting pimples- then obviously its a problem for you and you can deal with it.

    I know if I eat a load of white bread, the next day I wake up with spots, so I just don't eat the stuff.

    Simiarly, if you find after pigging out on chocolate, you break out in spots- just stop eating it and see if that helps. Seeing as (contrary to popular belief!) chocolate is not one of the five major food groups, cutting it out should have no ill-effects, you have nothing to lose by giving it a go.

    my fiance has a very strict and healthy diet and exercises daily yet when he eats chocolate he get pimples every time he eats it.

    However, if one is allergic to chocolate, other skin irritations can occur.

    Your insides are clogged up of grease and sweets and when you eat chocolate you make it worse and breakout. if you stay healthy.. run, exercise eat your veggies and every now and then eat chocolate i can assure you wont have acne anymore. ofcourse you also have to care your skin from the outside. wash your face when you wake up and before bed. no make-up. lotion? sure. but dont clogg your insides or your pores.

    Chocolate is high in fat and sugar which can cause breakouts. occasional chocolate is not going to do that. most of the bodies waste is through the skin so pimples are formed by something in the inside and something onthe outside

    anyone who thinks its a 'myth' is an idiot

    i used to have bad ache and i definately noticed that when i ate chocolate AND greasy foods my acne WOULD INCREASE..without a shadow of a doubt that was what was causing it..then i stopped and it stopped..then ate some chocolate and it came back

    eventually it went away on its own but you cant prove it doesnt cause it..now i eat a lot and it doesnt do much, but i try to limit greasy foods bc that definately was a cause too

    parents say yes, we say no. final.
    some guy ate heaps of chocolate for 2 weeks, and he didnt get pimples. even if u wont, doesnt mean u get to pig out, cause choccies have heaps of cals/kjs and fat in it, wich the fat part could contribute to the oils glans on your face, causing pimples

    My mom gets pimples EVERYTIME she eats chocolate. It's a dead give away she's been eating it. She gets them on her neck. Chocolate gives some people neck pimples. It's a mild allergy to the food, or something in the chocolate. But she eats very pure chocolate (she's french) so I would hazard that it's not dairy or anything else causing this. Chocolate give her neck hives. large hardish whiteheads. I am sure that this is not the case with every person. Chocolate doesn't give everyone pimples but there is no question it causes them in my mother.
