The basic Garmin models have giving me the most up to date accurate directions. You just need to remember to update every so often, b/c roads are always changing. I like that it also helps me locate places like gas stations, restaurants and lodging when I need it. Have fun!

Honestly, I would go to AAA and get all the maps and books that they have showing camp grounds and attractions and cheap motels and go without the electronics. I took a "round the US" trip with a girlfriend and we had the time of our lives on a $20/day budget. We shared an order of toast and a cup of coffee for breakfast and ate Ramen noodles mixed with Cambells soup cooked over a sterno for dinner. We would sneak into camp grounds after dark and out before dawn, if we could so that we didn't get caught for the fee by the park wardens, or we would pitch at the side of the road, or sleep in the car. We bought a National Parks pass before we went, and that got us into most of the places that we wanted to see. We travelled 16,000 miles over three months, met the greatest people, lost a ton of weight and had a blast.

I am enjoying using my GPS on the Blackberry Curve and would recommend it as an dual=triple purpose alternative.

Try the Digiwalker C320 sold at staples for about $199.00, it is reliable and safe. As a trucker I use it all the time. It can be bought at Staples.

Probably the Tom-Tom, because you can plug it into your computer and update it
