  • If friction ceased to exists, it would be because the electromagnetic force ceased to exist. Without the electromagnetic force atoms would not combine to form molecules and electrons would not even be held in orbits around atomic nuclei. Without the electromagnetic force there would be no resistance Proton combining t form heavy elements. So, if there were no friction, the universe would consist of electron and atomic nuclei of various sizes. The atomic nuclei would probably range in size from those of the standard sizes that we know today clear up to planetary sizes created as gravity pulled smaller nuclei together. There would be no life in the universe because life requires molecular interactions. ************ "Langbein: And what would that do to us, physically? If friction was turned off at the push of a button." I would have thought that that would be obvious from my answer. It is the strength of the bonds in the molecules that make us up that allow us to hold our shapes against Earth's gravity. It is the interactions of these molecule that make life possible. If friction were suddenly turned off, those bonds would cease to exists and we would collapse down and become part of the huge atomic nucleus that was once Earth.
  • cars would go crazy and crashes would happen every 2 seconds maybe
  • By mt logic, if friction as we perceive it was turned off but not atomic coheishien, then most animals would die from not being able to move themselves to food and water, while lifeforms such as plants and trees would grow and prosper for a time, untill there were no animals to transport seeds and then all the fruit trees would die.
