I do even though it's not socially accepted. I want to be allowed to wear dresses outside but my mom wouldn't approve and other people will yell at me.

but since women wear pants, what would be wrong with it?

I sure I remember that it was fashionable for men to wear sarongs a couple of years ago. Here's a picture of Beckham to prove it:)

BTW, if it was socially acceptable I would give it a go. I think I would go for a nice floral summers dress, and maybe a pair of slingbacks.

A number of men do wear kilts, even when it is not socially acceptable. See http://www.utilikilt.com.

I think I would be happy to wear a skirt any time I would be happy to wear shorts - which is not very often.

I'm not going to wait until it becomes socially acceptable. I have already worn skirts in public and I love them. Skirts are far more comfortable than pants. Before long I'm going to try wearing a dress in public. It can be socially acceptable for men to wear skirts and dresses in public, but we will have to make it happen. Wishing for it will not get us anywhere, we will have to work for it.

You bet! Makes more sense for a guy than a girl to wear a skirt for obvious reasons! A skirt is much cooler and non restricting than shorts on a hot summer day. Worn with undies there is no reason for men not to wear skirts. Funny cuz women cannot xdress but men can! Women don't have homophobia problems that hang up most men! In time it will be vogue for men to wear skirts but for now don't hold your breath.

(If women would encourage men a little there would be more options for men's boring boring clothing options of just shorts or pants!...The RETURN of Skirts are the next logical fashion reform for men).

PS: A Kilt IS a Skirt by definition. Forget kilts...expensive and heavy. Some plain cargo mini skirts on a guy can look sharp. Let the revolution begin...

It is socially acceptable for men to wear skirts (kilts) in Scotland. When in Rome....

    ***************
    "jangobean: didn't mean kilts"

What's the difference? A skirt is a skirt. It's just that a kilt is a specific type of skirt that men can get away with wearing. If other types of skirts were acceptable for men in general to wear, then men probably would wear them.

well, I'm a girl, and you know what, it's not really socially accepted for us to wear skirts and dresses.

I do see men wearing kilts quite often in my area, of course, so no one complains and thus a lot of local men can get away with wearing "skirts" that way. I love a man in a kilt. Give me a guy who wears a kilt any day.

Of course, there are quite a few Goths in the area, and they do wear skirts, which is pretty cool, really, esp when these guys are wearing long black velvet skirts! OMG! That is so hot!

Of course, then there are the trannies and drag queens, who, OMG! I love these guys! I soooo want to marry a drag queen. I would love to be the wife of a drag queen. Those guys are just absolutely amazing. I've meet several drag queens and they just have this great attitude about everything, they are so, in love with life.

Now, for you men out their who want to wear skirts and dresses but aren't because you feel it's not socially acceptable, I have a question: What is stopping you from wearing them every day? around the house, around town, to school, to work, to church, going shopping.... why do you need to go to a party to wear them. Hell, you could be wearing one of them right now while you're sitting at the computer. I am. I'm wearing a black velvet ball gown right this very instant. Granted I'm a girl, but do you realize, how much slack I get for the way I dress, even though I'm a girl?
    .
I'm what is called a "life actor". I pretty much wear whatever Liberace would wear 24/7 and nothing else. I look like I just walked out of the 1600's most days. One of the dangers of being a life actor in an area where no one but you is a life actor, is that every time you set a foot outside, people gawk at you and start asking the silliest stupid dang questions. Like:
    .
Are you promoting a play for the local theater?
    .
Are you on the way to a costume party?
    .
Is there a Renaissance Fair nearby?
    .
    Are you a circus clown?
    .
OMG! It's a Harry Potter fan!
    .
    Are you a witch?

    .
. . .and my personal favorite:
What the hell planet did you drop off of?!?

    .
    yea . . .okay . . . whatever.
    .
So what prompts these non-ending string of questions everywhere I go? My cloths.
    .
My clothen style includes velvet, capes, empire gowns, gowns with trains, burnoose, shawls, runas, fishnet hose, striped stockings, combat boots, velvet, top-hats, long dresses, ruffled frilly skirts, cosplay, Gothic, Lolita, Victorian, Edwardian, velvet, frockcoats, Alice in Wonderland, vampire fashions, Medival fashions, crilolines & petticoats, eyelash-fringe fabric, sequins, beads, glitter, lace, cloaks, ruffles, broomstick skirts, stripes, plaid, poet blouses, peasant dresses, fairy tale princess gowns, faerie outfits, wizard-look stuff, big hats, bright colored hats, ballet flats, platforms, anything that Dracula would love to wear, and stuff like worn by Jem*, The Holigrams, and The Misfits.
    .
I was dressing like Jem, before Jem was invented.
    .
I love anything made of velvet!
    .
I don't like pants: won't wear them, won't own them.
    .
I the 1980's I wore min-skirts, but as the years have gone by, my dresses and skirts got longer; today my hems sweep the floor and they often have trains. I have one dress that has 7 yards of fabric on the skirt alone, it can be worn with or without hoops.
    .
No, what I'm wearing is not a costume.
    .
Yes, I dress like this every day, all day long, even around the house, when working in the garden, and when shoveling manure out of the barn. Yes I am a farmer. Yes, most days the only ones who see my outfits are the chickens.
    .
No, I don't own any "normal" clothes.
    .
No, I can't tell you where I bought them, because I didn't buy them, I sewed them.
    .
No, I can't tell you where to buy the pattern, I didn't buy a pattern I made the pattern. I've been sewing since I was 6 years old when I made my first doll. I made my first ball-gown at age 12. At age 16 I graduated from a 2 year course in fashion design & merchandising. I've spent most of my life studying fashion history and the art of recreating historical clothen from the Gothic periods (1300 - 1500 & 1850 - 1930), and those are the clothes I thus wear.
    .
No I already told you this is not a costume, these are my regular cloths, I don't care if you think this is a costume, it is not, please stop asking me if it is.
    .
I don't like people who think I'm wearing a costume even after been told that I am not.
    .
Yes, I know this looks like a Willy Wonka costume, yes, Johnny Depp inspired it. Yes, I do wear a top hat everywhere I go. No, I repeat this is not a costume.
    .
Yes, I REALLY am making a historical reproduction of Lord Sesshomaru's costume, and yes, I do intend to wear it, fluffy tail, battle armor, and all, as part of my daily wear.
    .
Now, I ask again, what is stopping you from wearing whatever you want to wear when ever you want to wear it? To hell with what people think.

    Any other questions?

I already do. I regularly wear short skirts, pantyhose, and high heels in public, and I have to say I guess it's pretty well accepted because I get a negative reaction from maybe one out of 100 people, and who cares about them? More people enjoy my company when I'm in a skirt and heels than when I'm in pants, and I enjoy their company more when I'm in a skirt and heels than when I'm in pants.

Absolutely! Only recently as a dare I tried a mini skirt and wow...now neat! Men need to open their minds as women did with pants! On a hot summer day nothing is cooler. A short skirt is non binding making more sense for a man to wear than a woman! Something women take for granted but men have yet to experience!
Men need to get over their homophobia and open their minds to a new experience and just be Real Men. Try a plain Cargo Mini skirt (many pockets, belt loops and about the same length as many mens shorts). I suggest juniors sizing (doesn't have big hips). Just do it and experience real freedom...

Of course I would wear dresses all the time.
I assume that this question means that the man is not cross dressing, he is wearing a dress because that is an acceptable form of clothing for a man. That would be wonderful. Who would not want to wear a dress in the summer. Dresses are cooler, I was always envious of my sisters on really hot days.

If we are God fearing people we would follow the scripture of Deuteronomy 22:5 as the bible is very clear on how men and woman should dress also 1 Timothy 2:9 I would like to add:

I have been saved for about a year now and have not been out of a skirt since. I strongly believe in the scriptures of Deuteronomy 22:5, and 1 Timothy as well as all of Proverbs 31. Knowing how hard it was to find a skirt that was considered to be modest apparel. I took all of the jeans I owned and converted them into skirts. Since then my 14 year old daughter and I have been making skirts in all different sizes for other woman in the church. It has been a great growth experience for us not only in faith but in fellowship together. We have posted all of the skirts that we have made...check them out on Etsy.com this is an awesome site for homemade things....Anything!!! Check it out. You will find us under key words Long... Denim... Skirts........Mack77

If it were socially acceptable i would in a heart beat. I would expect there would be a line of dresses geared towards the male body as breasts and cleavage would be a non issue and unnecessary.

Maybe someone should start a community or getaway where men can dress any way they want without fear of being judged. this could be run like a clothing optional community.

I don’t know about the socially acceptable part but I wear either a skirt or dress at least a couple of times a week, though not out in the general public. I do have to wear panties, hose, and a bra daily. This is a part of my marriage; my wife chooses what I wear, as well as how and when I wear it. Currently the only people other than my wife that see me in a skirt or dress on a regular basis are her “pink hat” club friends. They think that it is very funny and accept me for what I am, a husband being punished and enjoyed by his wife for her pleasure and amusement.

If we were allowed yes I would wear dresses and skirts and blouses and pantyhose and pumps. I would do so though because so many women (genetic) don't like those items. I need them in my life somehow so I would wear them. I am not sure how else I could have those things is my life. I have ugly leggs though so really its a shame that some of the most beautiful women I have every seen hate dresses, heels, pumps skirts and pantyhose. I like all sizes of ladies from small and short to size 34 BBWS so size does not matter. Being a fem lady does. I am big so I would be shopping at Catherines and Lane Bryant with Just my size pantyhose.

I do in the house but only basic dresses and skirts. If there were dresses and skirts that were made more for a man why not? They are cooler and very comfertable like a nightshirt. Wearing a dress or skirt to on the job is just not practicle for me but at home when I'm relaxing it's great. Afterall, the clothes don't make the man.
