Why does the summer solstice occur in the Northern Hemisphere?

    There is also a Summer solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Perhaps this will help:

    When it's Summer solstice in the N.H. it is Winter solstice in the S.H.
    When it's Winter solstice in the N.H. it is Summer solstice in the S.H.
    When it's Spring (Vernal) equinox in the N.H. it is Autumnal equinox in the S.H.
    When it's Autumnal equinox in the N.H. it is Spring (Vernal) equinox in the S.H.
