Make a *lot* of noise.
-
I have never had much luck with a broom on my lawn.
-
Make a lot of loud noice and blow all the leaves into your neighbors yard so he can blow them back into your yard.
-
The wind from the blower gets all the dust and debris. No matter how well you sweep, a broom simply won't whisk away as much as a blower.
-
Wake up the whole neighborhood. Make enemies of all your ex-friends. Get all the dogs barking down the whole block. Blast little rocks into your car causing little pits and dents.
-
You can tape a 12' stick of PVC pipe onto the end of the blower and shoot golf balls a long, long way. My furthest shot with a broom and dustpan was only 12 feet.
-
You can make a leaf blower burst in to flames.
-
If you aim the shute in the right direction you can more easily pile leaves and debris in a desired location. To do so with a broom might be possible but may take more time and effort than a person is able or willing to give.
-
well you can move large amount of leaves in a large area pretty fast and once you get the hang of it, you can work around Bush's, trees, overs the lawn, under the cars, all with one tool, thus moving leaves to one area to pick them up or in some city to the street for street sweeper to pick up up in our case across the road and to the next field and cows eat them.

I love the landscape crews that save their 'little' residential contracts for weekend duties, usually in the a.m. The leaf blowing replaces the mechanical energy it would take to manually sweep, so if not actually saving time or aesthetics, it does save on total energy exhumed. Leaf blowing on a roof can be safer than a rake or a broom. Leaf blowers can actually push water too. The tone of the question implies that you prefer a broom and dustpan. If you owned a landscaping business is a leaf blower not how you would tackle the problem of collecting debris?
-
Make money for the leaf blower manufacturers and retailers.
-
They are, for some reason, fun (much more so that the boring old dustpan and brush).
-
Annoy the heck out of the neighbors, and help ruin the environment.

Cut clean-up time considerably, as well as save on the muscles. Ten hours of raking or sweeping totally sucks big time and leads to tendonitis if done on a continual basis. Blowing dirt/sand takes talent and tact. Definitely do alot better job on parking lot tar. But you have to be really considerate of people and vehicles in the area. This includes stopping when people are walking by in the area that the dust is blowing to. Afterwards, a low power setting can be used to gently blow off the vehicles or houses in the area that you couldn't avoid coating. People using blowers on leaves need to be taught the right way of doing it, or else they waste alot of time blowing the debris around in circles. (Seen it done)

Save you'r arm's and back.

Perhaps it encourages laziness, ... well, unless you have a humongous lawn.
-
it can make life easier for starters, go buy one off craigs list or something for 20 bucks and try it
-
Wake me up on the weekend when I'm trying to sleep in.
-
they're faster and in the mind convert the user from a "broom pusher" to an "equipment operator" i hate them and wish our city would outlaw them
-
really piss off my cat

My procedure is edge, blow, mow. After I edge I blow it all onto the grass. My mower has a bag wo when I mow I'm picking it up. By the way I put a mulching blade on my mower. Time was that I've filled four big green trash bags. This time I only used about two thirds of ONE bag.
-
save you lots of time
-
They blow away the leaves and leave the river stone behind!
-
do it quickly.
-
It's more efficient to user a blower. Time is money! Also, a blower can be used on light powder-like snow. You wouldn't use a broom for that!
-
I have a tree trimming business and without this device my clean up time would make my prices greatly increase. Also it is less harmful to landscaping.
-
There's nothing better than watching the sun rise, hearing the birds sing, breathing in the fresh morning air--and hearing some obnoxious leaf blower piercing the tranquillity of a brand new day. Don't you just love it!

A big plus is you never have to bend. I have also used my leaf blower inside the house to blow the accumulated dust out from the coils in my fridge-works like a dream- just remove the back panel that has 4-6 screws, point the leaf blower into the coils and blow away-you will not believe how much dust you will get!

I love my electric leaf blower! I have 3 acres to clear of leaves in the fall and spring and I can get it done in 6 hours compared to 4 days of raking. Plus I don't knock my back out of whack or get blisters from raking. I also use my blower to clean out my dryer vent, I clean the dust off the coils on the fridge, I clear my deck and front porch of leaves and twigs, I clean out our vehicle and I blow all the leaves and twigs off the roof of the house and shed with it. If you use a broom on the shingles, it will wear the little gritty things off the shingles after awhile. I do all these things in less than half the time of using a broom or a rake.I like the electric ones because they are quieter, make no exhaust and are much lighter to carry around. When all my leaves are heaped in a big pile, I reverse the blower into a vacuum mulcher and suck them all up in a canvas bag attachment and use the mulch in my flower beds.

Show the world what a selfish bastard you are. As for efficiency, I see my neighbor spend a half hour puttering with leaves on a small area of sidewalk that I would clear in 5 minutes with a broom. Once people have a power tool in their hand they LOOK for something to do with it. So they end up looking for leaves behind bushes, where there's no reason to remove them and it's better for the earth to leave them alone; blow out their car, chase down everything on the pavement. Leaf blowers CREATE work and people spend more time using them than if they raked or swept. Disturbing people for no reason like this should be against the law.
-
Nothing good. They are NOT faster or better than sweeping or raking. Even if they were, does that give you the right to destroy your neighbor's time and peace of mind by disturbing him/her with the noise? What gives you the right to disturb people? Are you BETTER than your neighbors, that they should agree to this? If you have a HUGE area to clear there should be an advantage - like a football stadium or a street after a parade. But people generally use them on small properties, annoying everyone around them for no reason. You have to be extremely lazy not to be able to sweep or rake - if you were, the leaf blower would be impossible for you to handle too. The small amount of exercise required will do you good. I have a gardening business using only a hand mower, rake, broom and hand tools. I refuse to use these stupid things. Raking is fast and easy. I enjoy it.

1) Get into corners 2) Get all of the dust 3) Sweep a path five feet wide down to clean, bare ground in one pass in mere seconds 4) Handle uneven surfaces 5) Dry pavement By the same token, why do you think many machine shops used compressed air instead of paintbrushes to get tthe chips off of a part? That said, hearing and eye protection are a *MUST*! At least in a machine shop, most people are already wearing proper PPE as soon as they come in the door. The same is rarely true of leaf-blowers.

In reply to Anonymous. I understand WHY you don't have the balls to use your name, because you're a retard! First you say they are NOT faster, then you change your tune and say "even if they WERE". How the heck would you know if they were faster than using a broom or a rake? I highly doubt that you are a home owner or have to clean/rake/mow a yard every weekend. Home owners usually work 5 days a week. And on the weekends, they have more work to do, cleaning up their yards. Faster is better. So you don't like the noise? What about when you have your car stereo blasting out that crappy music? Don't you think your neighbors hate that noise too? I'd rather listen to the hum of a leaf blower than hear that stupid bass music rattling my windows! Get a life, get an education, get a job and get your own house.
