  • About 10% of the iceberg will be above the water line. This is an image that shows about what an iceberg would look like if you could see both above water and submerged portions. (Note, it is four different pictures that we put together to make one image, but the proportions are correct.)
  • One milliliter (cubic centimeter) of liquid water weighs 1 gram, (i.e. the density of water is 1.00 g/ml). Ice floats in water because its density (0.92 g/ml) is slightly less than that of water. The density of the ice is so close to that of water that when ice floats more than 90 percent of its volume is under the water So approx 10% of iceberg will be above the water
