It depends on what you are going to hunt, and what type of hunting you are going to do, I and my whole family hunts, we primarily do bow hunting, but we also do shotgun. We buy no store bought meat. We hunt and fish, in the summer we fish crab and clam, in the fall and winter we hunt rabbit, squirrel, deer, turkey, pheasant, quail, duck and goose. First you must be an ethical hunter, follow all rules and regulations. Know your animals you hunt take the time to research what you are hunting, many ducks and geese that are on the endangered list, when hunting, hunt no more than you can eat. Never take a lucky or unplanned shot; the object to hunting is to not maim what you are hunting. Taking a bad shot or unclear shot makes you an unethical hunter and gives hunters a bad name. know the limits or your bow or gun, stay in your range, do not compensate. You are effective with your bow at 30 yards then stay there. Shooting over your effective range is unethical and dangerous Do your scouting and know the area you are hunting. Make sure you have permission to hunt on the land. Know where all private residences are. Also stay away from areas that people commonly use for walking or outdoor activities, and be respectful to non-hunters at all times as they as we, are entitled to their opinions on hunting. Many hunters have a tendency to give hunters a bad name by consuming alcohol or parading their kill around on the hood of their cars and just being plain rude to other people. If you are planning to deer hunt, a good place to start is picking up a book by Leonard Lee Rue. Again, do your research, do not show off, and master your skill before you hunt not while hunting.
