Probably to make them feel better about themselves. :P

bullies need some one to feel worse about themselves in order to make them selves feeel better. ussally a very low sense of self confidence.

Because mosts of them do it to protect themselves at all costs and it doesn't matter if it hurts others. And it makes themselves look better if they put down others. They feed off of other people's pain.

They just may be screwed in the head by pleasuring themselves from others pain.

Usually, they are hurting. Misery loves company.
