Because it's not the new drivers that's the problem, it's the people who currently have cars that can't afford the gas. That's like asking "Why don't people who eat apples, make banana bread with it?" It's not the same thing.

Are you kidding? Cars are going up in price because people want cars that get great mileage. Even the price of used cars is going up. By BIL is in the car business and it's really hard finding good used cars because all the dealers are holding on to them if they're clean and get good mileage.
