  • I like good art from many different genres, and yes, there are some great "folk art" pieces out there. Often, one genre is as good as another. You can even find really bad Renaissance painting.
  • I love Henri Rousseau French, 1844-1910 Naive Folk Painter http://www.historyofpainters.com/rousseau.htm and Edward Hicks American, 1780-1849 Naive Folk Painter http://www.historyofpainters.com/hicks.htm here is a ga;;ery with some great folk art http://www.americaohyes.com/
  • i am an indian artist and traditional folk artist, i think contemperory art search its trajectory through folk art. even folk art is not so organized but this organises the real depth of art.
  • A lot of folk art is just plain bad, and is more about the "story" than about the art itself. If a plumber paints cat portraits in his spare time, who cares? But if a schizophrenic homeless man who lived in a cave for twenty years paints portraits of cats, now you're talking! The paintings of plumber and mad man can be identical. Still, you know it's the crazy man who will sell more works. Still, I like to encourage people to paint their own art. If folk art teaches us anything, it's that the art of all people have value. If you like a painting, consider the possibility of painting it yourself instead of buying it. This is particularly true with abstract works. You can do it yourself, and it will be just as good -- if not better.
