Plums are not in season in the US right now. The ones you got were probably shipped a really long distance to get to you. Try again during summer - they should be good then.

I've actually read this is due to genetic engineering to make the fruit more profitable to the growers. They thicken the skin to make them tougher and stand up to more. They grow them bigger to more attractive to the buyer - the bigger the fruit the less sweet it is. Pesticides to make them more resistent and yield more. I like my fruit just before it spoils - that's when it's sweetest and organic is best

Only buy fruit in season, so you won't be disappointed. Notice which country it came from, and don't buy from there any more. Buy fresh, in season fruit at the farmer's market, and you will be glad you did. If there is any doubt when you are at the store, ask the produce clerk to let you have a taste of the fruit in the bin. He will gladly cut one for you.

The Chinese like salty plums. We now have to dance to the tune China plays. They have taken over in so many ways economically. Teach your kids how to live on the street! Thanks WalMart

The fruit seasons in NY are shorter and shorter, I think everthing comes year round from another state, except for apples. You can't by plums here if you don't hit the right week in summer. I don't know where they come from but they're like little rocks and taste lousy.
