Absolutely yes. Can I borrow a credit card?
-
No, we don't spend money we don't have.
-
i'm going to have to say NO on that one. I mean unless it was a vacation that sort of just came up and I put it on a credit card...something that wouldn't put me over the top in debt
-
No. I would for an unexpected vacation if I would have the money to pay it back with the next paycheck, etc. Which means I could afford it.
-
No way. I would never take a cash advance from a credit card for ANY reason.
-
Oh, I have taken a little vacation from reality in just this way. Thing is reality was waiting, PLUS interest when I got back. Don't do it. The vacation isn't worth the stressing over the bill.

Thinking about it.....

Probably not

Well, this isn't quite to the point of your question, but cash advances are typically the most expensive way to obtain anything with a credit card. If you want to borrow for a vacation, it's much better to just use the credit card to purchase the plane ticket, hotel, etc. -- you'll usually get a much better interest rate and avoid the cash advance fee. Would I do that? Yes, of course. I have no rule that says it's forbidden to borrow for vacations -- the question is whether or not incurring that debt fits with everything else about my financial life and my life in general. I don't need a set of fixed rules to tell me how to make choices.

Yes I would. Boy do my husband and I need one right now.
-
No Way Ever! I don't care if my head was on fire and I needed a cash advance to buy some water to put it out!
-
no, our credit charges on our cards are 20 to 22 %, you just couldnt do it !! :)

I have only taken cash advances on my credit cards about three times in my life. The first two times that I did it, I used the money to pay for college tuition while I was working on my master's degree. (I just did not have enough money to pay for it by the deadline, but would in a few more weeks.) The third time was when I moved down here to Texas to start my current job. (Three years of being unemployed to vastly under employed had not left me with enough savings to be able to pay the moving expenses immediately.) In all of these cases I had the debt paid off within just a few months. I am allergic to debt. I only go into debt for things that I really think I need. A vacation is a luxury. I would never go into debt to pay for a luxury. Luxuries I pay for outright or I don't buy them.

No, I am a cash type of person. If I don't have the money, I don't get it.

No

OMFG NO!!! The APR's for cash advances are SO high, and if I couldn't afford to pay it off anyway, I'd be ruining my credit faster than you can say "repossessed" (home/stuff). Absolutely not, no way, no how. I hope that no one does because that is really sad.

We did it once, but it was carefully calculated. We knew we were receieving a $5000 tax refund but my husband is military and we knew he wouldn't be able to take vacation leave after a certain date. We were lucky - the CC we had was same interest for cash advances. So, we took the cash advance and paid it less than a month later, after the vacation, when the refund came in. We ONLY did that because we KNEW we would have the money and there were no other timing options for him.
