  • when i was young it was thumb sucking and masturbation... now that i am older it's eating and sleeping.
  • Hot herbal tea, a good book, listening to music (your choice... if I'm angry, I like angry music, but more often I prefer soft pretty music to soothe the nerves), and playing games on my computer. You could also try running... it's great stress relief and you can pretend you're running away from the overwhelming world and letting the wind blow it away. Not to mention it's healthy, but treadmills don't count. And yes, you can go running in the rain. It feels good.
  • Eat chocolate. I'm not kidding. I'm serious. The sugar will help your blood, and the chocolate releases the happy chemicals in your brain.
  • Exercise is a brilliant way to kick old habits, but it should be new exercise, for example if you've been running for years as exercise, take up rowing, or mountain biking. I think one that requires a bit of focus, but not so much that it's sort of mentally intense... mountain biking is good, because you get better and better at it, and choose better lines, try new trails etc, and the focussing on the line doesn't take up too much of your brain, but enough to stop you thinking about other stuff. Also, the endorphins (chemicals released from your brain that improve your mind <happy chemicals>) get released efficiently from exercise, so you'll be buzzing for a while afterwards. Settling down for a while with a good book, or maybe a video gaming session, can also help, because you can get lost for as long as you want (until you reach the end of the book, but id advise reading a set, such as LOTR etc), so you control when, how long for, or if you want to, you dont need to control it, just do it til you've had enough. Good luck!
