Good of him. More should protest. On return it is readily apparent the government doesn't care about the troops. Bad medical care is standard. I am a Viet Nam Vet. I turned in my VA ID cut up and stated I wanted no more to do with them. The care has gotten progressively worse the last 7 years. No care at all is better than the care received there. Might surprise you but I actually had to pay more for VA health care than through my regular insurance. And I checked if I were on State Welfare, I would have much better care including dental the VA doesn't provide. And if a co payment were required, less than one forth that of the VA. But the VA is good if you happen to be an alcoholic or drug addict. That doesn't happen from combat but often after they return and realize they were used and deceived. That realization is hard to live with.

YES I would think that it would be a heroic effort. Why wouldn't it be?

I should add he should get a hold of every newspaper, radio station and tv station and air his experiences and reasons he is opposed to the war. With walking he is mostly on empty highway and unnoticed. Fact is his protest of something he finds wrong is much more patriotic and heroic than anything he dis in Iraq in service. Though the fact he served there gives him exceptional regard on voicing his reasons. Bush often likes to say protesters don't know what they're talking about. Put a war veteran up there and let him say the same and the entire world again recognizes Bush as a liar, fool and coward. I'm taking it Sgt Thompson probably wrote for the Stars and Stripes?

Heroic No. The only heros are the ones over there who have died for what they have believed in. A journalist stateing his opinion is no hero no matter how valid or invalid his opinion may be. The only thing this man wants in my opinion however is attention if he actually opposes the war he should still be over there reporting stories and trying to convince the rest of the public in what he believes in. Walking across a state does nothing to convince people.
