  • It probably depends on how strict they are where you live, etc. But I can tell you that for me, it seemed to depend on "To what degree could she not parallel park?" Like I didn't get all the way over into the space I was supposed to get into, but I also didn't knock over any cones or anything, so I still passed. It's all about not knocking over those cones!
  • I got my license in the state of California and did not have to parallel park. EDIT: To become a more helpful answer I will add some aides :) http://www.dmv.org/how-to-guides/parallel-parking.php http://www.ehow.com/video_1872_parallel-park.html
  • Chances are you'll have to parallel park in order to pass your test. More importantly, you need to know how to do it in the real world. It will come up. Just practice a bit more and don't psych yourself out.
  • they didn't test for parallel parking in my test, and they didn't test any of my friends either. that's just something you should learn and master on your own.
  • I did, back in like 1988 or 1989. All I did was drive around the block. Didn't break even 30 MPH. However, when I got my CDL, I had to parallel a semi with trailer on the blind side! Also do a backwards serpentine.
  • Yes ........... I think that it can be up to the tester. Back when I tested, parallel parking was the last thing that was tested. By that time, the tester has a pretty good idea of your driving capabilities. I remember as I came around to the parking area, the tester said, "Ok, parallel park between the cones." As I pulled into the position to start backing up, he said,"That's fine. You're done." (Class C)
  • I wasn't even asked to parallel park. I believe it is random, so you never know if they will ask you or not. Since it's fairly easy, why don't you just go to a large parking lot and just practice over and over until you get it.
  • I think it depends on what state you are trying to get a license in. I had to on my test, even though I tried to tell the officer giving the test that I would sign an affidavit stating that I would never go anywhere that required parallel parking. He saw no humor in my suggestion.
  • I had to, but i learned to parallel park using two metal trash cans and a cane pole. Haha my stepfather told! Me if I hit a trash can I'd hit a car and if I knocked the cane pole Off I'd hit the curb. Its not that hard.
