The TV version was much more faithful, and kept some of the most important themes of the book intact (alcoholism, danny's abuse, etc.) much better than Kubrick's version, which kind of deviated into something very abstract. I also thought the TV miniseries was cast better. The production was decent, and some of it was a little corny, but overall I thought the miniseries was a real winner for fans of the book. Kubrick's version was very good, but only if you consider it a movie of its own, not as an adaptation of King's novel.

The Television mini-series was better. It seems whenever Stephen is involved in his own projects they are better. Kubrick did the original Shining and aside from Nicholson's performance and Scatman Curruthers...it was not very good.

The TV mini-series I enjoy much more than Kubrick's "The Shining."

Definitely the one with Jack. He was the perfect choice for the part, and this is one of my favorite movies.
