I run a 24hour service business so I can hardly alter my driving habits, but I am trading in the diesel van we use for the locksmithing work on a mini-van. The truck used for road service work gets about 12 mpg, but I can't get by with anything smaller. If fuel prices continue to escalate like this, I may be forced to raise my basic service call price to compensate.

I have stopped joy riding all together. I usually take my car out once or twice a week and I run all my errands in one fell sweeps. I'll visit the doctor, go grocery shopping, do banking, visit friends, and then put the car back in the garage where it will stay for several days.

I've cut down on shopping trips the last 6 months. I have also driven slower on the highways.

We really haven't changed much as we've always tried to use as little as possible. We may not take as many 'long way home' type trips as we once did, though. We use the bike motorbike if possible. We combine many chores into one trip and even do some for others nearby as they do for us. We always check our tire pressure on ANY vehicle as that affects mileage greatly. We don't speed or rev our engines. And we don't carry excess weight in our cars that we don't need. No using the car as storage with 'stuff' in the back or trunk.

I walk the few blocks to town when I need something. It was getting to the point that my battery was running down. Now I've had to go back to work as a sales rep, so I'll be doing a bit of driving.
