  • You mean the pregnant and married teenagers werent enough evidence. The mens comment was, "Many of the men in the polygamist sect in Eldorado, Texas didn't know it is illegal to marry someone under 18", (I call Bullshit, not one person, knew that law). I beleive there is a saying ignorance of the law, excuses no one.
  • yes...yes...YES!!.. I thought marrying 12,13,14 and 15 year old girls to 50+yearold men was proof enough that sexual abuse is/was going on ...the last time I looked it was illegal to this , just because they are a religious sect does NOT mean they are above the law
  • YES! Is not forcing 12-14 year old CHILDREN to marry 50 year old "men" (and I use that term loosely) considered abuse?
  • As a former social worker and investigator I can assure you no agency or court would take such action with such great number of children involved that would so wildly publicized with out solid reason to suspect child abuse. The defendants will have their opportunity to be judged in a court of law sometime in the future.
  • In this case I think erring on the side of caution is for their benefit. Should there be no case of abuse, fine, no harm done. If something crops up, and nothing was done about it, then people would be baying for the authorities blood.
  • Let's see...minor children who are pregnant with babies from men old enough to be their grandfathers..no physical abuse you say? In what universe is that not abuse? I think all the women are totally brainwashed, defeated and have no self-esteem at all..they are ground down into fodder for the "men". They certainly are not good role models for those children, now, are they? :(
  • Um, 16 year old girls with three and four children? Tesimony that a bed in the temple was used to consecrate underage weddings? I'd say that's evidence of abuse.
  • Yes it was justified. A few girls ran away from the compound and alerted the authorities. Those girls are the witnesses to this case. It is child abuse as they were taken from their homes due to religious reasons, blackmailed into sex and pregnant due to "religious" reasons. Most of the children don't know who their parents are and will undergo a DNA test to find them, we don't know if they were abducted or taken with parental authorization this will weigh much in the case. They were brain washed by the child abusers in the name of their god. You say they may be uneducated as they may not have access to Internet or TV, that I can believe for the kids, but do you think that the leaders of that sect/cult don't have that information? I don't think so. What would you think if a child of yours was in this situation? Would you think it was a mistake out of ignorance? Regards.
  • Yes I do. You can't mess with Texas anyway.
