Do you think people coming to answerbag to ask a question want silly answers which are funny, or helpful answers which address their question?

Each question is different, and there's no generalities that apply to all situations. You have to read the question and interpret based on what the question says, as well as any knowledge you may have about the person asking the question. On an almost-related topic, this is a good place to mention that YOUR answers are stunningly consistent in quality and relevance. Somebody should give you a longevity X quality award for the cross-product of those :)

Usually, I'll offer a silly response to a serious question if (a) the question ain't that serious ,(b) serious answers have already been posted or (c) to provoke an alternative perspective. Sometimes we're so set on seeing things a certain way that we block other, equally valid ways of perceiving something. If done successfully, humor (or silliness) sometimes allows readers an easy way to shift their perspective and have a bit of fun at the same time.

If they're new, many times they are asking serious questions, and are looking for serious answers. If they've been here a while, and loosened up, they will ask BOTH types, and realize they may or will GET both types of answers in both types of questions. For me, if it's obviously a serious question, I will answer seriously. If there's a semi-serious question, and I have one, I will toss a "quirkie" answer in, then give the serious answer. If it's obviously looking for strange answers, and I have one, I'll give it.

I think most of them (me included) are looking for straight and serious answers,,otherwise why would they come here,,there are so many other ways for wasting time or having fun...That's just a personal opinion..by the way i didn't find a way to send a message and thank you for answering my question,so thank you,,It really helped.

There are both kinds of askers. And some who only ask to get points, too.

I defintely think that people want helpful answers. Silly answers are for silly peopel and silly people wouldnt come to answer bag.

Both and other variations. It depends on the nature of the question and the category it appears in.
