I understand traffic reports on the morning news, but why in the evening? And why every five minutes? And why not on the weekend? Accidents and construction happen then too.

My local radio and TV stations give traffic reports in the morning and the evening. They don't do it on weekends because a large percentage of their listeners work Monday through Friday. I would guess that the reason some don't do the afternoon reports is that they assume more people will have a TV available at home (vs. work) to check traffic.

Traffic sucks all the time up this way (Northern VA) and people commute, so having reports both morning and evening is a must. We have them on the weekends too.

So that people's wives (or husbands i guess whatev) can call their sweetheart and tell them to take an alternate route home in the event of traffic emergencies. :)
